June is designated as LGBTQ+ Pride Month. The Transport Workers Union of American, AFL-CIO (TWU) has deep roots in the civil and human rights movement and that also extends to the LGBTQ+ community and allies. As union members, we understand that the only way to prevent discrimination and create equality in the workplace is through a union contract and the TWU is committed to protecting our members through the contracts we negotiate and the values we promote.
As a union member, you are eligible to join the constituency groups sponsored by the AFL-CIO including Pride At Work which focuses on LGBTQ+ issues. Pride At Work seeks full equality without restrictions or barriers for LGBTQ+ individuals in our workplaces, unions, and communities, creating a Labor Movement that cherishes diversity, promotes inclusion, encourages openness, and ensures safety & dignity.
To join Pride At Work, you can sign up for a membership with the national organization or one of the state or local chapters near you. Pride At Work will be participating in numerous activities during Pride Month, so it’s a great month to join. You can find more information about Pride At Work including the upcoming Pride At Work Quadrennial Convention that will be held August 18-22 in Minneapolis on their website.
