We are so excited to have wrapped our first dues / membership signup, which closed on May 19 at midnight PST. After our first month, we have over 5,000 submissions completed! This is a monumental step towards chartering our Local, and a testament to what we can do when we stand together. It is not too late to become a founding member of our Local 579. If you have not yet done so, sign up today.
So what comes next?
TWU International is in the process of creating the first set of bylaws for us, and our Local 579, using best practices from their experience with the startup of a new Local and the number of members in our Local Union. The number of members is what is used to help determine the overall structure of our Local 579 Executive Board, per the TWU International Constitution.
Soon thereafter, TWU International will also begin the process of officially chartering our Local 579, which allows us to move toward electing fellow IFCs to represent us as Local Officers and Board members. More information will be provided on the election process and Local structure in the coming weeks.
Dues check-off will officially begin on June 8th.
If you have not yet signed up, June 19th is the next deadline to complete your forms to have dues / service charge automatically deducted from the July 8th paycheck. Dues checkoff is the most convenient way to meet your financial obligations. Sign up today to make sure that you do not fall another month behind.
Information regarding dues in arrears for June will be sent to any IFC who missed the May 19 deadline or did not submit a manual payment on time. This process will be done once we receive the official dues checkoff report from the Company and process any timely submitted manual payments
We continue to come together to build our Local and have our collective voice be heard!
One of the best ways to have your voice heard is to participate in the upcoming IFC election process. To be eligible to participate, make sure you have signed up for membership and are current on your dues. As a member in good standing per the TWU Constitution, you can be nominated for office, nominate or second the nomination of others, and vote in the election, among other benefits of Union membership. If you have not yet done so, sign up today.
If you have questions, visit our website or email International Vice President Thom McDaniel at tmcdaniel@twu.org. As a reminder, please check the website frequently to receive updated information from your Union.
Again, thank you for being proud founding members of TWU Local 579–you are a part of history!
